Crimson tree

Some inexperienced gardeners seriously believe that raspberries can grow in the form of a tree with one trunk and do not shoot. In fact, the standard raspberry is the same bush as all other types of this plant. However, with very thick shoots, the standard raspberry deserves its nickname.

Features of agricultural technology of standard raspberries

It is worth getting to know the raspberry tree for lovers of remontant species, for example, Indian Summer or September, since these varieties of raspberries bear fruit in early autumn, that is, at the end of the growing season. One-year-old stems growing in April-August give very few peduncles. The standard culture makes it possible to increase their number. The method is quite simple and involves pinching the top, due to this, the plant actively forms side shoots.

In this way, the same "raspberry tree" is obtained, which has a stem and 6-7 tops. With an increase in their number, more peduncles grow, which means that the yield of the entire bush increases.

Standard raspberries need sufficient living space for good growth, bushes should be placed at decent intervals. To avoid damaging the berries by frosts in October and November, you need to achieve the largest possible mass of the ovary before the beginning of September. To do this, from the beginning of spring, the plant needs proper care in order to do the pinching of the tops as early as possible. The advantages of the standard raspberry include the ability of the trunk not to lie down under the weight of the ripening harvest of berries.

Standard raspberry varieties

Raspberry varieties of the standard type Tarusa, Skazka, Krepysh and Galaktika do not need to be attached to the trellis. They have a height of up to 200 cm, with shoots thick, like a rake stalk, they are elastic and rather tough, the shoots almost do not become thinner upwards. By the second year, the bushes are thoroughly covered with fruit twigs with densely growing berries, due to the shortened internodes.

Among the varieties mentioned above, Tarusa stands out for its qualities. This standard raspberry, in the process of growth, practically does not form useless shoots, and the plant bush consists of powerful erect shoots. The flowering of this variety is unusually beautiful, and the berries have an excellent taste, have a bright red color and large size, while the weight of the berries is from 4 to 12 grams.

This prestigious variety of standard raspberry has the highest yield among other varieties. The good thing about growing the Tarusa variety is that it does not require pruning. Thus, gardeners do not have to worry about raspberry shoots spreading over the area.

An important feature of some varieties of standard raspberries is that they give a harvest throughout the summer, until the onset of the first autumn frosts.

Care and fertilization

Before planting raspberries, it is necessary to fill the soil well with organic and mineral fertilizers. The plant definitely needs regular watering, because without it, the raspberry crop will be at risk. But it is worth remembering that the roots can rot from excess moisture, and the plant will die in this case. Therefore, care should be taken with regard to watering.

Gardeners should be aware that, like ordinary raspberries, replacement shoots are formed in the standard species. If you cut them out and leave only one, then such a bush will resemble a tree that will not bend even when the branches are fully loaded with a heavy harvest. If the replacement shoots are not removed, then during fruiting they will bend under the weight of large berries, but due to the thickness and strength of the shoots, the berries will not fall on the ground. After harvesting, the shoots are cut out like those of regular raspberries.

Almost all varieties have high winter hardiness, are rather unpretentious to care for. If you provide quality care, standard raspberries significantly increase yields.

However, there is a likelihood of obtaining a low yield of berries in the event of a strong growth of the bush, the abandonment of overgrowth, and non-compliance with the basic agrotechnical rules. If the gardener has no intention of properly caring for such raspberries, then it is better not to plant them, but to cultivate varieties with a high level of adaptation.

How to buy seedlings

Today, there are cases when in the markets, under the guise of varietal raspberries, dishonest sellers sell wild growth dug up on abandoned plots, which is not capable of producing at least some kind of harvest. Gardeners who want to buy raspberry seedlings should be careful when buying and follow simple rules.

  • It is best to purchase seedlings from specialized nurseries;
  • Sellers in the markets must have a badge indicating personal data and documents for seedlings;
  • You should not buy seedlings outside of trading places, for example, on roadsides.

The above will allow you to avoid deception on the part of dishonest sellers, and a real standard raspberry will delight the owners of garden plots with a bountiful harvest of large and tasty berries.
