How does the timing of planting potatoes affect its quality and yield?

Since the timing of planting potatoes has a great impact on its yield and quality, planting should not be delayed.

At early planting dates, before the aphid-carrier becomes more active, the plant reaches age resistance, therefore, it suffers less from viral diseases. Of course, when determining the timing of planting potatoes, one should take into account the weather conditions, and the condition of the soil, and the physiological state of the tubers.

Optimal conditions for planting potatoes: soil temperature - 10-13 degrees (at a depth of 10-15 cm). This usually happens when the average daily air temperature is more than 8 degrees. At a lower temperature, potatoes do not germinate for a long time, stolons with nodules may appear prematurely on the surface of the tubers, that is, it will begin to grow.

Soil temperature is not the only determining factor for the timing of planting potatoes, more constraining is its high moisture content. Planting in too wet soil (at a sufficient temperature) can often lead to the defeat of the planting material by bacterial diseases.

In addition, planting timing affects the treatment of plants in summer. Each variety must be planted in one place as soon as possible (up to 7 days), otherwise, subsequent treatments with pesticides may not be very effective, because they are carried out in certain phases of plant development.

But it is not only too late planting of potatoes that is harmful. With a very early planting, there is a threat of frosting crops, which will also not add to the yield.

Many, focusing on folk signs, are planted during the budding period of the birch and the end of the bird cherry blossoming.
